FAQs

Fragrance and Wax FAQ's

What is a wax melt?

Wax melts are similar to candles but without the wick (the open flame). You place a melt in the top of an electric burner or tea-light warmer, and await the fragrance to slowly disperse through the air with aroma. The wax does not melt away; only the vapour is released, and unlike a candle, there will be no soot discolouration from them.

How can I use my wax melts?

All of our wax melts can be cut or snapped to your desired size. Simply place a small amount of wax in the dish of your warmer, do not overfill your dish, then allow it to melt. You will see wisps of fragrance coming from them, this is the scent filling your room with a gorgeous aroma. We recommend using a single snap of our Snap Bars, or 1-2 gems.

How long does the scent last?

You should expect a minimum of 4 hours of fragrance per recommended sized melt. Please remember people are different, and that means they will experience scents differently, so what might be a strong smell for you could be gentler to another. Many customers claim they can get more than 4 hours out of each piece of wax, and they will often remelt their wax time and time again until they can no longer smell the scent. Other factors that can affect fragrance throw are types of burners and room size; these are elements we cannot control.

What type of wax do you use?

We only use pure Soy blend wax, which is biodegradable and a natural product.

What fragrances do you offer?

At the moment, we have a variety of core fragrances that hopefully appeal to everyone. However, we intend to bring out new fragrances every two weeks and depending on feedback they might become permanent parts of our stock! Whilst you may not be able to get a scent you loved from a previous drop, it does mean we can bring out new scents and find new treasures! Please follow our Instagram and TikTok accounts to see sneak peeks! Also, sign up for our monthly newsletter with that month's events and fragrance drops!

When will a product be back in stock?

We are a small business but we aim to restock a permanent scent that sold out within a week, but this may vary. Please remember some scents are limited runs and will not be back until they are next released.

What is this white stuff on my wax?

That is polymorphism, commonly known as "frosting"; it is a natural tendency of soy wax. The wax forms a white, crystalline layer on its surface or sides. Sometimes our manufacturers can have soy wax batches that have a higher chance of frosting and others that are lower. While we do attempt to reduce any chance of frosting during our melt creation, it can be unavoidable, but rest assured it is purely cosmetic and does not affect the melts' functionality or safety.

Why is there smoke coming from my wax?

The “smoke" will be white in color and can usually be seen coming from your wax melt. It isn't actually smoke; it is vapor, and is the fragrance oil evaporating, which is how the scent is dispersed into the air. Some scents will release more than others, so don’t panic if it seems more noticeable on some over others. Black smoke is not expected, and you must please extinguish any tea-light candles or switch off your electric burner immediately. This signifies that the melt is burning at too high a temperature and is a fire hazard. If you ever see black smoke, be sure to check you have not had a candle lit for more than 4 hours or there could be a hairline crack in the dish of your burner. If your burner has any defects, we recommend ceasing usage immediately. Please avoid using oil burners (the flame of the tea light will be less than 10cm away from the top of the burner) as wax is not designed to go in there, and your wax will become very hot very quickly, meaning you will burn off the scent too fast.

How do you remove wax melts from a burner?

There are many ways of removing wax from your dish; however, the most common ways are using a cotton wool wad or cotton pads or hot water. Our new favorite way is using a wax liner; this is a quick way to change your wax without any mess or fuss! You place the liner in the dish of your burner, then place the melt inside the liner. You allow the wax to set and simply peel the melt out of the liner to change scent. Mess-free and no fuss! Wax liners can be found here! To use a cotton pad, you will dip the pad into the molten wax to soak it up. This will wipe the dish clean; be careful of getting hot wax on your skin. If the wax comes in contact with your skin, place the area affected under a cold tap for five to ten minutes; this will cool the wax and reduce blistering. We then recommend going to an emergency room.

Can wax melts explode?

When water comes into contact with wax that is melted at high temperatures, there is a reaction that causes the candle wax to splatter uncontrollably; make sure wax warmers are dry before use!

How do you clean a wax warmer dish?

With both of the methods above, you will be able to remove your wax with a clean dish every time. There may be little residue that can usually be picked off.

Is it safe to leave a wax warmer on all the time?

No! Never burn a tea light for more than four hours, or leave the wax melt burner on or near anything that can catch fire. Never leave a wax warmer unattended or burning for extended amounts of time. These include a flame from a tea light, overheating, or with electric warmers you have the risk of electrical wire damage and trip hazard from the cord.

Are your products safe to use around pets?

Overall, yes. However, they do contain certain chemicals, so you must ensure your pets do not consume our products. Your pets can be in a ventilated or large room whilst our melts are in use and, allergen dependent, not be affected. We recommend keeping all of our products out of reach of children and pets, and should you require further ingredient information, please do not hesitate to email us at doozimawhatsit@gmail.com.

Are your products safe to use when pregnant or around newborns?

We strongly recommend consulting your GP before using our products whilst pregnant, albeit safe on the whole. Newborns are very delicate and their sense of smell extremely fragile while they are so young. We would advise against using any highly scented products around the home for the first few months of your child's life; you can ask us for recommendations at any time, but we would also recommend seeking a medical professional's opinion above our own.

Can the melts be used near someone sensitive to fragrances?

If you or someone you know is sensitive to fragrances, we always recommend consulting with a medical professional before usage.

What happens if a person or a pet ingests a wax melt?

The primary ingredient in our melts is non-toxic soy wax. Ingestion of a small amount of our wax melts will most likely not result in a medical emergency. The person or pet may experience some minor gastrointestinal effects such as nausea. Regardless of the amount, it is recommended that a medical professional is contacted for treatment advice or visit the emergency room. Additionally, keep this product out of the reach of children and pets, as this could be a choking hazard, especially the gems or magick beanies.

Are your wax melts safe to use around birds?

We do not recommend using our wax melts, or any home fragrance products, when in the vicinity of birds. Birds are highly sensitive to fragrances and can only tolerate very controlled climates.

Can I use more than 2 different fragranced wax melts in the same burner at the same time?

No! We do not recommend it, ever! Safety Data Sheets are available for all fragrances that we sell, and these are professionally created for each particular fragrance. Mixing fragrances can result in unpredictable reactions and can result in serious harm. We do offer dual burners here; these allow you to safely burn two scents at once without the different melts touching and interacting with each other.

Do you use biodegradable glitter in your wax melts?

Yes, we try to only ever use biodegradable glitter, and if glitter is not your thing, no problem! We offer all scents in a non-glitter version too!

Is your Mica reasonably sourced?

Yes! We only source our Mica from ethically sourced manufacturers. Our Mica is also vegan-friendly, natural, and 100% cruelty-free.

How do I store my wax melts?

We recommend you store your wax melts in a cool, dark, dry place. We find that storing your wax melts under the sink or in a drawer most convenient to your warmer makes sense. The dark and coolness ensures the melts are not damaged by heat or evaporation from radiators or the sun.

Do you offer samples?

Unfortunately, we do not send out free samples without a purchase/giveaway win. You can buy “sample boxes” when they are available; be sure to check out the store to see if any are available. We do send free sneak peek samples and sometimes other freebies with every order placed. So place an order, and you'll receive free items (subject to availability).

Do you wholesale?

We do not currently offer wholesaling to other shops or businesses. We do offer bulk order discounts should you want to order for a private occasion, such as a wedding, baby shower, birthday party, or any other such occasion. Please do not hesitate to contact us via email or via our online contact form to discuss any such requests.

Do you take custom orders?

Unfortunately, due to lack of time, space, and hands, we do not take singular custom orders; however, we will look at accommodating bulk order requests.

Yes, you will find CLP labels attached to all of our products. Additionally, you can view all of our CLP labels prior to purchasing by clicking on the Fragrance Oils information page. Here you will find all information with regards to the oils used alongside the 100% Soy wax.

What is CLP?

CLP is a legal requirement for all scented wax products sold. CLP stands for Classification, Labelling & Packaging. CLP Regulations govern that since 1st June 2015, all new products with hazardous substances must be labelled accordingly in the EU, including the UK. CLP applies to a non-cosmetic product of any size containing a hazardous substance such as fragrance or essential oils (e.g., candles, wax melts, room mists, reed diffusers, etc.). It lists any allergens that may be in your wax. The allergens may be different for every scent. There are also precautionary statements listed on this label. These labels are needed in case of an allergic reaction or in case the wax is accidentally ingested; it's there so your health professional can refer to what allergen is in the melt so they can provide appropriate care. Our details are also listed on these labels in case the health professional needs any further information.
